Voress Museum-Dance steps along the garden paths (Ages 2.5-6)

Creative dance workshop series

The Vorres Museum organizes creative dance workshops for families with children aged 2.5 to 6 years. The theme of the first series is centered on the Museum’s Garden.

The creative dance workshop takes place in two groups: the first is addressed to children 2.5–4 years old (nursery and preschool) and the second to children 4.5–6 years old (pre-kindergarten and kindergarten). The presence of a parent or guardian for each child is required.

1st session:

The Garden is the home of Dance. It has doors, corridors, rooms, furniture, and secret corners. In this home we will discover and embody different qualities and elements of nature, such as fast, slow, heavy, light, stretched, bent, etc. With all the knowledge we collect, we will create a dance performance “in the theatre of the Garden.”

2nd session:

The treasures of the Garden. Leaves, branches, stones, and the different kinds of plants in the garden introduce us to a movement code with central concepts such as strength, balance, rotation, fall, resistance, rhythm — applied both to the whole body and to individual parts. The care and attention that the garden’s plants require will become an occasion to perceive our movement limits and the notion of self-care. Dance perception and body control will become the components of a dance performance.

3rd session:

The awakening of the senses. The plants of the garden sharpen our observation. We find words to describe and compare colors, sizes, heights, surfaces, and through games we embody these concepts. If I close my eyes, what do I hear? Can I see with my sense of touch? I discover the scents of the garden and guess a path. Together, we will cook the “soup of dance.” Its nourishing ingredients give strength and imagination to the dancers, so that in return we can offer a dance performance to the plants of the garden as our audience.

4th session:

Transformations in the garden. Who lives in the garden? We discover nests and hiding places suitable for different creatures — winged, four-legged, tiny, gigantic, silent… Our dance steps impress the animals that live in the garden. They want to learn our steps. Can we move like an ant? Jump like a cat? Make our arms into wings? We transform into fantastic creatures emerging from their nests to dance in the garden.
