The 365 Project: Ilias Papailiakis
Exhibition
White Series (eight studies)
The works of the White Series consist of studies for the frescoes of a funerary monument, familiar to the person who created them. These frescoes are not intended to be realized; thus, the polyptych presented functions like an illusion which, through its movement, fills the pictorial space.
When one faces them, a question arises: is this drawing, sculpture on canvas, printmaking?
It is painting, because it contains drawing, color, narrative, and structure.
A contour with a theme that—even if not immediately discernible—is highlighted by the title, dancing between memory and the uncreated landscape it inhabits.
We know that nothing exists without its meaning. Painting transforms space into time.
