Saturdays 21 & 28 February 2026, 11:30-14:00
Voress Museum-When statues come to life (Ages 7-12)

Workshops (Ages 7-12)

The program “When statues come to life” is addressed to children aged 7–12 and draws inspiration from the Museum’s sculptures. Through visual arts and theatrical activities, children observe the figures and poses of the statues, transforming them into imaginary characters and narrative figures.

The program includes two workshops that focus on the transformation of statues through mask-making and shadow, combining the observation of art with play, imagination, and creative expression.
Each workshop is delivered independently, and children may participate in either one or both workshops, if they wish.

1st workshop
Transformation Masks: When the statues awaken
Saturday 21 February 2026

In this creative workshop, children observe the Museum’s statues and transform them into imaginary heroes through the creation of carnival masks, inspired by the statues themselves. They observe the forms, expressions, and body poses of the sculptures and combine them with elements of spring, play, and imagination. The masks may refer to an imaginary hero, an animal, a creature of spring, or a carnival character.
Through colors, textures, and simple three-dimensional materials, children see works of art in a new way and turn them into a personal creation. The workshop fosters imagination, observation skills, and the joy of transformation.

2nd workshop
Shadow Theatre: The Statues’ shadows tell stories
Saturday 28 February 2026

Children create shadow-theatre figures inspired by the Museum’s statues and bring them to life through a short story. From the poses and shapes of the sculptures, silhouettes and characters emerge and transform into heroes of a collective narrative.
The workshop combines visual arts and theatrical play, helping children understand form, shadow, and movement, while also cultivating collaboration, expression, and creative thinking through play and art.

Bio

Kleoni Manousaki

Kleoni Manousaki studied Fine Arts at Columbia College Chicago and Interactive New Media at the Tisch School of the Arts (New York University). She is a visual artist who works across different media—performance, video, sculpture, painting, and gastronomy—creating spaces and situations that connect tradition with contemporary artistic expression. Her practice draws inspiration from memory and from places where the past remains active, using humor, tenderness, and curiosity as tools of transformation.

Since 2006 she has worked with children, young people, adults, and people with disabilities, approaching art not only as a means of expression, but also as a way of connection and participation. She has taught at international universities such as NYU and Parsons, while in Greece she has prepared applicants for studies abroad and taught at the Tsigkris design preparatory school. For more than ten years she collaborated with the ALMA Association for people with intellectual disabilities, as well as with the Onassis Foundation, designing and delivering educational and artistic programs in schools for people of all ages, with and without disabilities. In recent years she has also worked as an art teacher, integrating creative learning into everyday educational practice.

Her artistic work has been presented in festivals and exhibitions in Greece and abroad, among others at the Brooklyn Museum, at the Agathi gallery, and at the Church of Agia Eirini in Chania.
