From old to new: when objects come to life (Ages 6-8 & 9-12)
Workshop for children (Ages 6–8 & 9–12)
The Vorres Museum presents “From Old to New: When Objects Come to Life,” a creative workshop exploring the relationship between traditional and contemporary objects through the lens of design.
Through observation, analysis, and hands-on making, children draw inspiration from the folk collection of the Pyrgi, discovering how forms, materials, and decorative motifs from everyday objects of the past can be reimagined and transformed for new uses today. Participants will develop their own proposal, redesigning an old object into something new—either functional or symbolic.
The workshop encourages children to activate their imagination, “dreaming” of old objects as living creatures from mythical or fantastical worlds. Starting from traditional everyday items, they are invited to create stories and forms that bridge heritage with imagination, uncovering personal meaning and expressing their own perspective through creation.
Throughout the session, participants will engage in design exercises and 3D sculptural techniques. They will experiment with materials such as clay, reconstructing shapes inspired by folk art and mythological narratives. Making becomes a tool for expression, reflection, and creative storytelling.
This program offers children the tools to understand the role of design in daily life, stimulating creative thinking and hands-on experimentation. It promotes experiential learning and connects tradition with contemporary thought, deepening their understanding of cultural heritage through making.
