Bio
Sofia Sarri
Sofia Sarri is a multifaceted singer-songwriter and performer from Chania, Crete, constantly exploring the boundaries of her voice and artistic expression. As a performer, songwriter and composer, she is known for her ability to move between different musical genres, lending her voice to recordings and live performances spanning jazz, metal, post-rock, indie pop, experimental metal, improvisation, Greek-language productions and polyphonic choirs. From the pioneering collective Night on Earth to the experimental group Luup, her list of musical collaborations is extensive.
Her debut solo album, Euphoria (Inner Ear, 2017), combined her avant-pop songwriting with influences from Scandinavian black metal, urban ambient and dark-hop, creating a distinctive musical universe where the Cretan lyra meets analogue synthesisers and blast beats.
In 2019, she co-created the concept album Afterlife Romance (Dark Essence Records, 2019) with Romanian visual artist and musician Costin Chioreanu, known for creating visual concepts and artwork for bands such as At the Gates, Ghost, Leprous, Sigh and Arcturus. Later, in collaboration with musician and visual artist Adrian Tabacaru, the project was also released as a virtual reality edition titled Midnight Cemetery (Fruits of Venus, 2020), followed by a European tour with their band, Arac.
Her vocal artistry has also extended into film and television. She contributed to the Buma Music in Motion Award-winning soundtrack of the Dutch television series Ik Weet Wie Je Bent, composed by Stavros Markonis, as well as to the soundtrack of the Netflix series 1899, composed by Australian musician Ben Frost.
In the summer of 2022, she released the audiovisual work ARIADNE, in collaboration with visual artist and computer scientist Aias Kokkalis, which received recognition at the World Cannes Festival. During the same period, the work was presented as part of the exhibition DISRUPT at Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam. In 2024, she collaborated with Cypriot composer Andys Skordis on the work β, commissioned by the Subset Festival.
She is currently rearranging her own songs alongside a wider repertoire ranging from traditional music to Baroque compositions for an acoustic quartet, while performing at selected venues and arts festivals in Athens.
