Blending folk and contemporary ceramics (Mixed ages)

Saturday 10, 17 & Sunday 18 May 2025, 11:00 - 14:00
Voress Museum-Blending folk and contemporary ceramics (Mixed ages)

A ceramics workshop for different age groups

As part of the educational workshops at the Vorres Museum, we present “Blending Folk and Contemporary Ceramics,” led by visual artist Philippos Vasileiou. This workshop explores the relationship between folk art, ceramics, and contemporary sculpture through the technique of press-molding.

While ceramics are traditionally associated with folk art, they are also an integral part of contemporary artistic expression. This workshop draws inspiration from the Vorres Museum’s Pyrgi folk collection and the timeless dialogue between art, nature, and architecture.

Designed for a range of age groups, the workshop invites participants to explore the magic of ceramics through play, creativity, and imagination.

Participants will be introduced to the traditional technique of press-molding. Working with plaster molds that depict traditional ceramic objects—such as amphorae, sculptural figures, busts, and architectural ornaments—they will create their own unique compositions by combining various elements. In doing so, they will discover how tradition can become a tool for contemporary expression and playful exploration.

A special part of the experience will be a visit to a local ceramics studio, organized after the conclusion of the workshop sessions. The visit will be scheduled in coordination with the instructor and participants. During the visit, attendees will meet ceramicists, observe the glazing and firing processes, and see their own creations take their final form.

The workshop encourages collaboration and collective creation, helping participants to experiment with materials, form, and composition. The aim is to develop skills, familiarize participants with the rich tradition of ceramic art, and show how an ancient technique can be transformed into contemporary creation through their imagination.
