A “museum” of the Mediterannean flora at the foot of Mt. Hymettus!

The natural environment envelopes the Museum. Courtyards enclosed by dry stone walls surround the Pyrgi and form a series of hidden gardens, which for the last 50 years, have hosted an ever growing collection of Mediterranean plants. A museum that “breathes” thanks to where it's situated and to its outdoor spaces, it has adopted the last years a more sustainable approach in the way it maintains and develops its gardens. Under the guidance of botanist Eleftherios Dariotis and in the light of an ever-changing climate, the plantings have been redesigned; endemic plants, drought tolerant species adapted to the weather patterns of the area and a new dry part have been added, aiming to make these gardens a paradigm of Mediterranean gardening.
